NDC faces Traditional Council BAN over crooked campaigns

Chiefs of the Awutu Traditional Council are up in arms with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and have threatened to slap a ban on their activities in the area if the current crooked campaigns persists.

The Chiefs are in the interim demanding that Mr. Kwaku
Ampong who is championing what they described as divisions in the area on
political lines,  renders an unqualified
apology to the chiefs and people of the area or they will enforce their threats
to serve as a deterrent to others.

At a press conference on Tuesday September 10, 2019, the Acting
President of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Pobee Abundam VII expressed
disappointment in the misinformation fueled by one  Kwaku Ampong who doubles as the NDC
Communication Officer of the constituency that the Member of Parliament (MP)
for the area, Hon. George Andah was hooted at during the Awutu Awubia Festival.

‘’We call on the National Democratic Congress in the
constituency to openly rebuke Mr. Ampong for peddling falsehood about the
successful festival, an act which has brought the name of the Traditional
Council and Planning Committee into disrepute.

 This we will not take
lightly. In as much political parties would like to push their candidates as
the better option compared to that of the parties, involving the Traditional
Council in such act is deemed 
disrespectful and denigrates our customs and culture.’’ He stressed

The Planning Committee for the Awubia Festival however expressed
their profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Nenyi
George Andah and indicated that they would not have been able to achieve a
successful event without the enormous support from him.

‘’Hon. Andah is a god-sent and has been of great assistant
not only to the Traditional Council or the people of Awutu but the entire
constituency and country at large. He indeed this years’ festival a memorable
one and we wish all political parties and candidates will emulate his style.’’
He said.

“We would also like to thank the Regional Minister and MMDCEs and other corporate sponsors such as MTN, Vodafone, ABL and everybody who supported the in one way or the other.”

The Awubia festival is celebrated by the people of Awutu in
the Central Region at the last week of August. It is week celebration to
commiserate successful achievement of a bumper harvest, which the people of
Awutu refer to as ‘Bia’, and the ceremonial offering of thanks to the gods and
